HEIRLOOM. Luffa plants have so much more to offer than just bath sponges! Grow them for their ornamental, care-free, rampantly exuberant vines which produce lovely 2″ yellow flowers in summer heat. The young, tender fruits are often used in Asian cuisines, as they are a tasty vegetable when lightly steamed or stir fried. On fully mature fruits peel back the skin to reveal the sponge-like material. Loves a sturdy trellis, tree, or large shrub to climb.
