Partridge Pea is a beautiful and ecologically important nitrogen-fixing flower species native to much of the Eastern US. Its cheery yellow flowers are much loved by bees and other pollinators, and it is the larval host for several native butterflies, including the Little Yellow, Sleepy Orange, and Orange Sulphur.  It is also known as “sensitive plant,” because its leaves fold up when touched.  The plants will grow to about two feet tall. They prefer dry soils and full sun or partial shade, and will self-reseed once established in favorable conditions. Golden Alexander seeds germinate best after cold stratification.
